Artificial Intelligence- 10 Years From Now
Artificial intelligence (AI) describes machines that mimic “cognitive” functions of the human mind, such as “learning” and “problem-solving”. Tesler’s Theorem says “AI is whatever hasn’t been done yet.” The ever so proliferating technological advancements in AI can understand human speech, compete in strategic game systems, autonomously operate cars, intelligent and military simulations. The AI field encompasses computer science, information engineering, mathematics, psychology, linguistics, philosophy, etc. Quoting the assumption that human intelligence “can be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it”, raises philosophical arguments about the nature of the mind and ethics. Some believe that AI, will create a risk of huge unemployment. Ray Kurzweil predicts that by 2029 intelligent machines will be able to outsmart human beings. Stephen Hawking argues that “once humans develop full AI, it will take off on its own and redesign itself at an ever-increasing rate”. Elon Musk warns that AI may constitute a “fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization”. Prominent tech giants including Peter Thiel, Amazon Web Services, and Musk have committed $1billion to OpenAI, a nonprofit company aimed at championing responsible AI development. Nevertheless, few technology industry leaders believe that artificial intelligence is supportive in its current form and will continue to backing humans. Oracle CEO Mark Hurd has stated that AI “will actually create more jobs, not fewer jobs” as humans will be needed to manage AI systems. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes AI will “unlock a huge number of positive things,” such as curing disease and increasing the safety of autonomous cars.
Applications-10 years from now
From curating medical diagnosis, molding art, proving mathematical theorems, vigorous search engines, online assistants (such as Siri), image recognition in photographs, spam filtering, predicting flight delays, prediction of judicial decisions to targeting online advertisements etc, AI is forever changing life and society over the coming decade.
• Cooking- Products like the Hello Egg can not only help find recipes easily but will monitor eating and cooking plans to design meal plans that improve health.
• Shopping Prediction- Everything from Alibaba to Amazon will use AI to suggest the perfect product to shoppers, to ensure that product is stocked up and backed up at the warehouse.
• “Pay With Your Face” technology uses Advanced AI face recognition algorithms and will be quick and cheap enough to support millions of transactions per day.
• Raising a pet- AI won’t substitute the experience of having a child anytime soon, but having an AI pet that could play soothing music, be cute, lovable, and such that their minds will start to replicate some crucial aspects of pet intelligence. More than loyalty, AI will be able to grow older with you and form a lasting connection.
• Running a business- Singularity University’s Nell Watson believes that AI will be capable of organizing professional meetings etc such that managers may become less important.
• Relationships- with a good-enough algorithm AI could get to know you adequately to essentially do the Tinder swiping for you.
• Making, criticizing, and discovering music- AI can analyze music to create human-inspired songs and Google’s Magenta shall create AI music curators, and even AI music critics.
•Active scheduling, doing your homework-A.I. cannot just solve but define problems, but its basic solutions are already available at regular app stores. In schools of the future, there might not be assigned problem-based homework, at all.
• Financial services- With AI, the financial services sector can figure out why the rich gets richer — especially open source fintech solutions can change personal finance to my data.
• Legal advice- As AI doesn’t get tired or immediately judgmental with respect to public defense corps who are an unmitigated disaster, AI will provide an adequate legal defense to millions of people who currently do not receive one. Working beyond the 10-year timeline, this could have the far-reaching implications of any entry on this list.
Tampering with AI
The potential negative effects of AI and automation can also become a menace as criminals or large terrorist organizations can use it to disrupt nations via digital warfare. Other risks like job losses, safety of the passenger in a driver-less automobile while avoiding a head-on collision with pedestrians. AI programs may be programmed to be biased against certain groups, such as women and minorities, because most of the developers are wealthy men. A research found that support for artificial intelligence is higher among men (with 47% approving) than women (35% approving). Research in the field of machine ethics, artificial moral agents, friendly AI and discussion towards building a human rights framework is going on. Machine ethics realizes a way to resolve the ethical dilemmas they might encounter, enabling them to function in an ethically responsible manner. However, only human beings have engaged in ethical reasoning so far.
If an AI system can replicate key aspects of human intelligence, will that system be emotional will it have a mind that has sentient experiences? This questions the philosophical problem as human information processing is very easy to describe, but human subjective experience is difficult to explain. If it can feel, can AI have the same rights as a human? Few critics of transhumanism claim that any hypothetical robot rights would be leveled on with animal rights and human rights. The capabilities of AI seems impossible to comprehend as its technological uniqueness is an occurrence beyond which events are unpredictable or unfathomable.
